To design, engineer and manufacture a Bike Lock.

OUTCOME

The design brief was set by Sagentia. Throughout this project a series of research and data gathering was comducted to determine opportunities within the market for a new bike lock. Existing products were evaluated to understand the competitors within the market which led onto thorough brainstorming and idea generation sessions. A detailed specification was then generated from the feedback collected by the market research, outlining a number of user needs and technical requirements the device should aim towards. 

 

A favoured design was then chosen using a Pugh Matrix which was evaluated aganist the acceptance criteria determined from the market research opportunities highlighted. This design was then developed and modelled with a series of visual models to determine the correct proportions of the design. The final design was the modelled within Siemens NX before a manufacturing plan of the prototype was undertaken.The prototype was then manufactured using a range of techniques including welding, milling and 3D printing.

A branding image and a poster of the bike security lock was then created, outlining the devices benefits towards the user.
